Sniff This, Even Though It's Just An Auto Confirm

I ordered a perfume sample set from Ormonde Jayne, my favourite London perfumery, and they sent me (before the real goodies) the best sales order confirmation I've ever received. Ever. OK I know it's mass distributed but at least she did bother to write such length.

I first read about the Ormonde Jayne perfumes on a website that specialises in reviewing the "finer things in life", and tumbled into this unpretending boutique just off Bond Street, around Christmas time in 2005. It took no time that I labeled it my favourite London perfumery, in that 1) their perfumes are of very high quality and distinctively individual; 2) they are personally created by the lady, who founded the perfumery and used to work in the shop herself. I met her and had a chat with her when I made my first purchase from them. Almost two years on, that bottle I bought is still half full, and I still love the scent as when I first smelled it. It's named Ta'if (also mentioned below), and she told me it's inspired by this Israeli town she'd been to, with the same name. It has a floral base and a pink pepper front note, which gives it edginess. One thing for sure is by wearing such perfumes you are free from the fear that the lady next to you in the tube is also wearing the same. OK it doesn't mean a lot to the crowd around but if you notice that duplicacy, you feel odd.

Now sit back and enjoy.

Dear Lereis,

Thank you for purchasing the Ormonde Jayne sample programme. Your order has been processed and your perfumes will be posted today.

Please take your time in trying each scent. The best time of day to smell perfume is first thing in the morning, straight after you shower and before you have corrupted your sense of smell with breakfast, coffee and the outside world.

Try a new one each day, be generous with the amount you spray and give the perfume a few minutes to settle on the skin before sniffing.

There is something for everyone in our collection. The most artistic and abstract perfumes are Ormonde Woman (no one has made a perfume from black hemlock before) and Ormonde Man, our signature fragrances, Champaca and Orris Noir.

For beautifully balanced florals try Frangipani and Sampaquita and for the autumn/winter, night time and parties try the Ta'if and Tolu (but I also love Ta'if for the day myself).

On barmy hot days you can't beat Osmanthus shower crème, body lotion and the eau de parfum, it really gets you through the day.

So, have fun and don't hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance.

In the meantime, we send you our best wishes.

Ormonde Jayne

To avoid sounding advertising for them - I'm not being paid for it anyway - I've deleted their contact details. Go sniff around ;-)
